Thank you for the azimuth formulae from various sources. You've given me plenty to wage through. I've not studied the Admiraly Navigation Manual, so I can't suggest why two of the formulae are not included. If I were to start researching that question, I think I would start with "why would an RN Officer need azimuth" followed by "Is there somewhere better they could find it? E.g. does it fall out as part of a different calculation".
However, you quoted 'd h t sinz = sin t cos d sec h Bowditch 1958 p 567' . Was there no caution printed in the text surrounding this neat, plausible, and ..... manipulation of the spherical sine rule? DaveP
